Light of the World (W3D4) Spread the Word.

"When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them." Luke 2:17 When you obey God you get a chance to see that He is who He says He is. Once you see God at work you gain confidence. The next logical step is to tell people. This process is true of other things in your life. When you get a new fishing reel, shotgun, pair of shoes, a new vehicle --you first try it out. Once you see how good it works --you tell everyone. Why is it so different with our faith? The shepherds "spread the word concerning what had been told them." They told their story and people were amazed. There is a

Light of the World (W3D3) Let's Go

"When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger." Luke 2:15-16 Hearing a message is only part of the equation. After the shepherds heard they made no excuses. They took a step based on the information they received from God. No excuses. No delays. They heard (see yesterday's devotion for more on hearing from God) and they went. This sounds a lot like what James, the brother of Jesus, said in the book he wrote ... "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselv

Light of the World (W3D2) Shepherds like us

"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night." Luke 2:8 Shepherds were not the people you would expect to be the first to receive the announcement of Jesus' birth. Shepherds worked out in the fields with sheep --all the time. Basically they were the first shift workers. They missed all the exciting events. They were not the most important or the most well connected or even the most liked people. Much like us, shepherds were normal, everyday, hard working, ordinary people --not the ones you would expect God to speak to. The shepherds had to be on watch 24/7. There was no real break from the danger and pressure and stress of life. They liv
