James (W2D3) The Process

Week 2. Wednesday: The Process

PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.

READ: James 1:15

15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

  • Then, after. Following. This term shows us that sin is not a one time act. It is a process.

  • Desire. Emotion. Not a sin. Out of your control. See (Gen. 3:5) →

  • Deception. Mind. Rationalize, blame. Out from under protection (See Gen. 2:17) →

  • Disobedience. Sin, death. Looks good but ends up bad. (See Gen. 3:6

  • Conceived - Gives Birth. Seize. Take over. Once desire has taken over, fully deceived, the inevitable next step of the process begins. Bring forth. Produce. Desire and deception lead to something much more dangerous.

  • Sin. To miss the mark. To wander from what’s right. Desire and deception are internal struggles that, when unopposed, lead to action. Sin, doing the opposite of His will, places us completely outside God’s protection.

  • Full-grown. Finished. Complete. Sin grows up. Rarely does desire and deception lead to one sin. It breeds. When sin has accomplished its purpose the end result is death.

  • Death. Misery. Separation. The danger of separation for God’s plan for you on this earth as well as the implied idea of eternal separation and future misery in hell

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

The earlier you can begin to fight the process. Here’s how to fight...

  • Own It (Romans 7:21-25). Be honest. Admit your faults, weaknesses and struggles.

  • Replace It (1 Timothy 6:11). You may need to avoid some people, places and things.

  • Confess It (James 5:16). You are not intended to do this alone. Tell someone.

PRAY: Pray for God to identify to you which step you need to take and to have the boldness to begin to fight.
