James (W2D4) Every Good and Perfect Gift
Week 2. Thursday: Every Good and Perfect Gift
PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.
READ: James 1:16-17
16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words
Deceived. Don’t be fooled, tricked, lured, duped. Don’t make the fatal mistake.
Good & Perfect. Beneficial. That which satisfies. Complete. Whole.
Gift. Unearned. Favor. Given to you by someone else with no strings attached. God passes down many gifts to us --food, clothing, happiness, family, friends. Ultimately, this gift is given to us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Does not change. God is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8); Jesus is like an anchor (Hebrews 6:18-19). He can be trusted. He is always and forever good to us even when we can not see it or understand it.
APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?
What are some good and perfect gifts that God has given you?
Make a list, right now, of the things you have to be thankful for.
What positives come from God never changing?
PRAY: Spend some time in prayer thanking God for the list of gifts He has given you.
