16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

SNAPSHOT: In this verse, James reveals the root of the problem which is pride and arrogance. Our struggle with pride is that we can’t usually see it in ourselves. The more we follow Christ and read God’s word, the more we will see our pride problem present itself. Once we see pride the way that God sees it, we can begin to humble ourselves and make the necessary changes.

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

Read Proverbs 16:18. In what ways does pride lead to destruction?

In what ways are you being prideful or arrogant?

PRAY: Ask God to help you see your pride and humble yourself before Him.
