Week 9. Friday: The Good We Ought to Do
PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.
READ: James 4:17
17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words
Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.
Make a list of the keys words/phrases and think about what they mean.
SNAPSHOT: In this verse, James concludes his teaching about making plans by dealing with our sin problem. If we know the right thing to do and don’t do it, that is sin. If we keep our lives so busy that we miss out on serving God and others, that is also sin. Therefore, we should plan ahead by prioritizing the good things that God calls all of us to do.
APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?
Read Proverbs 14:22. What good things do you need to plan to do?
What good things are you choosing not to do? Why?
What could be the consequences of neglecting these good things?
PRAY: Ask God to help you prioritize the good things He has commanded us to do.
