Week 11. Tuesday: Grumbling

PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.

READ: James 5:9

9 Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

1. Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.

2. Make a list of the keys words/phrases and think about what they mean.

Snapshot: In this passage James is teaching that believers should not grumble and complain against one another. Much like today, the first century church apparently had issues with believers not getting along. Grumbling leads to complaining, which leads to gossip and strife. As believers we are called to humble ourselves, realizing that we have sinned in the same ways as others. Therefore, we should be careful not judge others for the same things we may have done ourselves.

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

Read Philippians 2:14-16. What are you currently grumbling and arguing about? Why?

When believers grumble and complain against each other, what does that say to the unbelieving world around us?

Have you ever been guilty of the same thing you are upset about? How should that change the way that you treat others?

PRAY: Ask God to help you to be thankful and not to grumble and complain.
