Week 1. Thursday: Growing in Love and Wisdom

PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.

READ: Philippians 1:9

9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

1. Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.

2. Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.

Snapshot: In this passage Paul prays for the Philippians to experience true spiritual growth. He says that growth is seen by how our love increases. This is a continually increasing love for both God and people. Paul uses the phrase “abound more and more” to stress the idea that our love should be overflowing continuously. As our love for God increases so should our knowledge (correct, precise knowledge of what is true) and our discernment (knowing what is right and best).
