Real Mature (W1D5) Discerning What Is Best

Week 1. Friday: Discerning What is Best

PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.

READ: Philippians 1:9-11

9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

  1. Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.

  2. Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.

Snapshot: In this passage Paul show us the results of growing in love, knowledge, and depth of insight. As we grow in these areas we will gain the ability to discern what is best, become more pure and blameless, and to be filled with the fruit of righteousness. That is the result of spiritual growth. If you want to know if you are growing, look at the fruit you produce (see Luke 6:43-45 and John 15:1-17).

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

God calls us to be pure and blameless. What in your life is not pure?

What do you need to change so you can be pure and blameless?

What does it mean to be filled with the fruit of righteousness?

PRAY: Ask God to help you grow in purity and righteousness.
