#getoveryourselfie (W1D2) We Are Family

Week 1. Tuesday: We Are Family

PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.

READ: Philippians 2:1-2

1 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

  1. Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.

  2. Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.

Snapshot: Paul continues the IF...THEN statement. IF you expect to get the most out of this life of following Christ, THEN you will figure out how to work together as a team. One family. One body. There are many differences among us --opinions, how we parent, dress, spend out money, political views. But none of that is what matters. In order to get the most out of your faith we have to focus on the big picture of who Jesus is and how he calls us to act. It is a call to put yourself on the shelf.

Takeaway: Complete joy, satisfaction, purpose in the Christian life does not come by focusing on self. Ultimately we are wired to move forward in our faith as a group.

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

How can we as a group be more like minded? How can you lead your family to be more like minded?

Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; 27. Are you functioning more like an individual or part of a body?

PRAY: Ask God to help you identify the places where you live alone, outside the fellowship of other believers. Pray for opportunities to be intentional about becoming more like-minded and in one spirit with other believers.
