#getoveryourselfie (W3D4) The Word of Life

Week 3. Thursday: The Word of Life

PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.

READ: Philippians 2:15-16

15 Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

  1. Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.

  2. Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.

Snapshot: In this passage Paul tells us the first and most important step in how to stop grumbling and arguing which is to hold firmly to the word of life. The word of life is clearly the word of God (The Bible). Normally when we think of holding firmly we think of endurance or perseverance. So we would read this passage as a command to hold on to God’s word. However, that is not exactly the meaning here. The Greek word epechō is better translated as meaning “to hold forth” or “to present” something to others. Therefore, Paul is saying we should shine like stars as we present God’s truth to those around us.

Takeaway: We cannot accurately present God’s truth while grumbling and arguing.

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

What do you think it means for you to hold firmly to the word of life?

In what ways can you better present God’s truth to those around you?

PRAY: Ask God to help you identify those around you that need His truth.
