#getoveryourselfie (W6D2) Rejoice

Week 6. Tuesday: Rejoice!

PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.

READ: Philippians 4:4-5

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

  1. Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.

  2. Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.

Snapshot: In this passage Paul reminds the Philippians yet again to find their joy (rejoicing) in the Lord. In this letter alone Paul mentions rejoicing eight times. From the Greek language Paul is using the word chairō as a present imperative. This means that Paul is saying our rejoicing should be a continual, habitual practice no matter what circumstances we are facing. In verse 5, we find that gentleness should be a quality in us that is evident to everyone around us. A better translation would be “graciousness” toward others. It should be evident in our lives that we extend grace to others in the same way God extends His grace to us.

Takeaway: Be known for grace rather than judgement.

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

Are you known to be a gentle/gracious person? Why or why not?

What are the positive results of being gentle and gracious?

PRAY: Ask God to help you display His grace and mercy to those around you.
