Week 6. Thursday: Think Positive

PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.

READ: Philippians 4:8-9

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

  1. Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.

  2. Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.

Snapshot: In this passage Paul continues with his solution to anxiety by telling us what we need to focus on. There are so many negative things to think about in this life that we have to force ourselves to think about the good things. So Paul gives us a list of things to think about: true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. When we focus our minds on these things and put what we have learned into practice, the God of peace will be with us.

Takeaway: The Right Mindset + The Right Actions = A More Peaceful Life

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

Do you tend to be more positive or negative? Why?

Make a list of the things Paul says we should think about. Next to each word write something from your life which that word describes.

What have learned since following Christ that you have not put into practice? Why?

PRAY: Ask God to help you focus on all the good things He has given you.
