#getoveryourselfie (W1D5) Self on the Shelf
Week 1. Friday: Self on the Shelf
PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.
READ: Philippians 2:3-4
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words
Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.
Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.
Snapshot: We have been raised and told our whole life to look out for #1. No one else will, so you better. But at what cost? When Paul says to do nothing out of selfish ambition it is not just an exercise in self-denial, it is a way to create some space and margin in order to be more aware of the interests and needs of others. If true satisfaction in life in to be had in community we must stop reaching and grasping for selfish things and find ways to recognize the interests and needs of others.
Takeaway: When we focus on getting what we want we disregard the needs of people around us.
APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?
Watch the Monkey Business Illusion. How can this apply to this verse?

What things consume you to the point you miss out on interests and needs of others? How can we be more aware of the interests and needs of others?
When was the last time you sacrificed your interests for the interests of someone else?
PRAY: Ask God to help you look away from some of the trivial, worrisome things in your life. Ask God to help you see better the interests and needs of the people around you.
