Better (W3D2) Less is More
Week 3. Tuesday: Less Is More
PRAY: Ask God to speak to you from His Word.
READ: Ecclesiastes 4:5-6
5 Fools fold their hands and ruin themselves. 6 Better one handful with tranquillity than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.
UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words
Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.
Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.
Snapshot: In this passage Solomon tells us that it is better to have less with tranquillity (peace, rest, happiness, contentment) than to have more with toil (stress, anxiety, and trouble). This does not mean we should have nothing and be lazy. Fools are lazy and their laziness ruins them. Solomon is teaching us that there are two extremes; laziness and greed. Both extremes lead to a meaningless life. It’s better to just have less and be content with what you have.
Takeaway: More possessions leads to more work, more stress, and less time.
APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?
Are you content with what you have right now? Why or why not?
What would you have to change if you decided to live on less income?
What might change for the better if you decided to live with less?
PRAY: Ask God to help you be content with the life He has given you.
