UNDERSTAND: get a deeper understanding of the key words

  1. Begin by underlining nouns with a single line, double underline verbs, and circle descriptive words.

  2. Make a list of the key words/phrases and think about what they mean.

Snapshot: In this passage Paul is giving us some practical ways to work out our salvation (Philippians 2:12). The first step is to stop grumbling, complaining, and arguing. In the Greek language these terms described and internal attitude that works its way to the outside. The struggle begins on the inside. We have to replace our negative attitude with thankfulness.

Takeaway: Christians should be known for kindness, not for criticism.

APPLY: What is this passage calling me to do?

What do you grumble, complain, or argue about?

Why do we grumble, complain, and argue?

When you’re tempted to complain, what could you do to stop yourself?

PRAY: Ask God to remind you of all the things you should be thankful for.
